Jane OUT! But It Ain't Over...

Yes, everyone all over is celebrating our hard-won battle in forcing Jane out. Notice I used the word, "battle"? The second demand hasn't been met. The BoT expressively and specifically stated that the students did commit and violate the university's Code of Conduct thus it is at ikj's discretion to follow through - or not. As of now, it is understood that those arrested will be on PNG (persona non grata - Latin word for banned from a specific place or event) status. It is also understood FSSA's lawyers are on the ball in regards to this issue and hopefully ACLU will jump in and assist.

Now, what? What about Mike Moore, the interim Provost? Why is he on an interim status? Is IrvingBoT holding Provost job for jkf in event the presidency does not work out? Did BoT forsee the protest? Did they already know the protest was in the works? That it was unavoidable? Did they figure the protest would burn out and die sooner or later and jkf would proceed to assume the presidency - but they ought to "play it safe" and keep the provost post on an interim status? It sure looks like it to me.

Now, they terminated Jane from her president designate AND presidency posts - but nothing about afterwards. Does their definition of "termination" mean a permanent "PNG" status from Gallaudet - meaning she will never work for Gallaudet again? Or is she merely terminated from the president seat but she could resume her Provost job?? After all Mike Moore IS an interim. Again, why? If BoT sticks to the true definition of "termination", Jane will never be back. And there will not be any room for negotiation on jkf's part.

What BoT need to keep in mind if they indeed have in mind to allow jkf resume her Provost job that Faculty Senate already voted 82% against her as well as that her appointment as Provost was without approval and vote/participation from Faculty Senate 6 years ago thus nullifying her appointment. They must take this into consideration when they announced jkf's termination. jkf must never return.

So, what about the interim provost post? What will BoT do about Mike Moore? Or what will ikj do about him?

Like many other bloggers said, BoT and administration are both corrupt. They both need to be totally wiped out and replaced. When I read the BoT members on RidorLive - it boggled my mind how these people got nominated to serve on Gallaudet's board. Many of them have NO ties to Gallaudet or background in deafness or service for the deaf. BoT needs an overhaul. A reform. There needs to be a criteria for someone to be nominated to serve on the board. Not out of a jar. Not a personal friend of the university's president or anyone in the administration. Do a background check on each nominatee. Make sure they are appropriate choice to serve on board.

There will be a long road to recovery. This is not over. This is just a battle won. There is still a war raging on. Keep your war chants and energy!
