Der Sankt's Challege: ASL Translation Of His Story
Der Sankt issued a challenge for us to translate his written ASL; DE suggested for us to do vlogs on the ASL translation of Der Sankt's story and post links on his blog. Here is mine!
(Yes, this should be posted as a link on Der Sankt's blog but since viewings tend to diminish after the first day, I figured the links to the vlogs might be overlooked if posted after the first day when the challenge was issued on Der Sankt's blog which was yesterday.)

Yes...it WAS hard to follow exactly! That is THE challenge, more than translating written ASL into an ASL story!
I think its up to Ben Vess to decide if mine is close or way off base! ;-)
I'm still waiting for Ben to post the promised English version, LOL.

Also, I have a curious question: did you feel like you were translating my writing in ASL or more like reading out loud?
What did you do before making this vlog? Did you memorize the story concept or word order? I'm just curious...How you feel? Was it easy read?

Not bad. Pretty similar to how I signed to myself but you did some better than me.
Yes, Ben, please write the English Version - would be interesting to compare the two!
Yes, it WAS hard reading the ASL version - had to sign out to make sense of what was written. I stumbled on some parts, scratched my head, and took a bit before I caught on. I think I still don't get the ending - Jessica wants to know what happened at the end, too!
To make the ASL vlog, I had to practice first - I left your post on, minimized my webcam window so I could squint my eyes and read your post and sign aloud. Took me 3 tries before I got it right - included all parts of the story.
I still feel the ending is weak - no closure...I am not sure quite what happened at the ending, Ben??
Anyway it was all in the fun!
Was it easier to translate into signing ASL from English version or translate into signing ASL from written ASL? I wonder...
This is a fun project. Thanks for sharing your experiences, Cy. I'm curious to see if it is easier to sign it from written English or "written" ASL. My hypothesis, for some of us, it would be written English, because we all used to translating in our heads from English to ASL. I could be wrong.

Deaf Tea Time: Hmm, your signs for "hungry" might be misinterpreted -- and the "thirsty" one too. But Ben did not really say what he was hungry FOR, did he?

Like I said, translating from ASLish into an ASLvlog is a challenge and open to different interpretations. Your take on the hungry may be right.
Hi, Added a new value add to my blog this weekend - a news widget from www.widgetmate.com. I always wanted to show latest news for my keywords in my sidebar. It was very easy with this widget. Just a small copy paste and it was done. Great indeed.
