Felons Roam FSDB Campus?!?

Florida School for the Deaf and Blind knowingly hired two felons to work on construction projects on campus. One has history of selling cocaine and another with history of felonious assault.

What can we do to ensure safety of the children around the campus from outsiders?? Faculty and staff are subject to stringent set of rules regarding undergoing background check to ensure they all have clean records. They don't subject the contracted workers to the same set of rules!

I don't care if there's an off-duty cop on site! A felony is a felony. Sheesh!

Deaf Tea's Response to DRMZZ

A response of clarification to address Mike S' intepretation of vlog posted yesterday.
(I had to re-post this vlog. Someone posted some 400 plus repeated ugly comment in my first one. A personl attack from an anonymous commentor. I suspect it is the same person who also posted a nice one in the next post because that was another group of repititions of the same message. A change of heart? A guilty conscience? I don't know but the act of posting a reptitious single message is suspicious in itself that it is the same person. If the person had a change of heart, then, I want to say thank you.

This person did the same thing in my other posts pertaining to the EAR-CLOSE debate - of which I don't want to delete - 400 plus message is simply too much work to delete and these vlogs pretty much have been viewed out.)

Ah! Good Ol' Times With FM Systems!

Circa 1972. I am the one on the chair. The headsets and FM devices could be seen in the background at the window on a caddy. As you could see, most of us were not wearing our FMs and only two wore their personal hearing aids. Why? Most of us broke our FMs during recess and were awaiting replacements!!

It is beyond me why many schools for the deaf required students wear their FMs during recess!! Leon, the boy at the far right in the stripped shirt, and I were fond of swinging upside down and that usually resulted in the FMs falling out of our pouches, shattering on the ground below!

I also wonder if the range of the FM extended beyond the classroom?? Anyone know?? Any reason for us to have to wear our FMs on the playground??

Like John Lestina, of ABC blog, mentioned, I had bloody ears on several occasions due to fighting or falling on the ground on my side of head. (Head down...yup....I fought a lot! I was a tomboy). My chin were bruised as well from the FM hitting me in the chin while running or engaged in physical activities. Many times, the pouch straps, which had snap ons, unsnapped and fell off my chest, flying 50 MPH to the ground, and shattered into microscopic pieces while I was on that thing where you sat on and held on for your life while someone flipped the metal thing around and around, increasing the speed. Anyone know the name of that equipment? No, not the merry-a-round with many kids on it, but the one that was a single metal rod with a semi-rectangular attachment for an individual child to sit on. Except I used to like to stand on it resulting in me slipping off the bottom rail when the speed reached higher velocity with me holding on with just hands, the FM flying off! Yup, I was a rough kid and sort of a daredevil.

AH! Audistic attitudes of the schools of the Deaf in the 1970s cost them a pretty penny on those FMs! Evil cackle....our ultimate revenge! For forcing us to wear them during recess!

Funny, I never owned a hearing aid. Hated those things. I love my quiet.

Carl VS Deaf Tea

A response to Carl's debate that EAR-CLOSE sign originated from the effects of Milan's Conference of 1880s when oralism was declared to be the official method of instruction for the deaf resulting in mass dismissals of deaf faculty in the schools for the deaf. The sign was promoted by "audist" deaf to lend themselves status over others in order to obtain jobs at schools for the deaf.

Ear-Close Audistic Sign? A Response to Carl Schroeder's vLog

A dicussion of whether EAR-CLOSE sign is a hidden agenda in lending status to one group of deaf over another. Carl debates that EAR-CLOSE gives status to those who speaks thus given status above those who are EAR-MOUTH.

Computer Idiot

I learned! I learned how to post vlogs to my blog. And a story bonus.

(next day)

Sigh! I have to learn another thing...how to keep the vlog on the blog. Youtube automatically sends vlog to the blog - great. But Deafread does not pick it up because it has not been republished. I went to republish the new post, and the vlog disappeared - TWICE! I even tried to insert my rss feed but it is nowhere to be found on my provider's tabs (under the new Beta version) and Deafread changed the rss formatting. It used to be simple - blog address, atom.xml. That was it. Now they changed all that. Frustrating!

Here's another link!

ARF! A Response to ABC's "KODA/CODA's Embarrasing Moments."

My first vlog! Vlogging this one would yield more impact upon the story than a typed version! Bear with me - I'm still learning. Keep in mind that I am not going to vlog that often! I am still more comfortable with typing.

Sorry, folks. All I can do at this time is provide the link to the vlog. Will work on figuring how to transfer a full video file from youtube to my blogsite. It seems my blog provider is fussy about recognizing file names! Enjoy!

This is Garth at 15. The story took place when he was around 4-5 years old. He's a frosh in high school. Like any teenager, he spends 99.9% of his time with his buddies! His passion apart from friends is football. He wore his jersey in this picture.

Yup, he is still as independent and adventurous as ever. This has never changed. That is part of his core personality and being a teenager doesn't change that! At least, now he can TELL time! I tell him what time and where to meet when we go out shopping. That is oh-so-much better than going around looking for him!

Bob, MJ, and Allen's Vlog on SLCC

I watched 18:46 minutes of vlog on SLCC with Bob Davila who invited MJ Bienvenu and Tom Allen (never heard of him) as guests on his weekly vlog. Of course, we all know MJ is the chair of the Deaf Studies at Gallaudet. I already forgot what Tom Allen's position is, but it must be significant enough to co-guest with MJ, and he did present a lot of good information.

Everything sounded good. MJ signed with her usual poetic fluency and Tim with his richness of information, and Bob with his usual charisma. Ummmm....I don't know. Something is amiss.

They assured their viewers that SLCC is central to continuation and advocacy of ASL studies and that the postcards mailed out was a tragic misperception by many alumnus. MJ assured that the square footage given to the Speech and Audiology is exactly the same as their former home, Mary Thornberry Building - that it is just a matter of transferring from one building to another. There is no expansion of the program. The only expansion goes to ASL studies.

Sounds good? Yup. But....I don't know. Are they trying too hard to convince us? Are they scared by the "misperception" of those postcards? Are they trying to pull wool over our eyes? Would MJ mislead us? After all, she is a significant contributor to the implementation of SLCC project.

Any thought on this? There is no comments on Bob's vlog. I know Gallaudet Legal website has comments but the site is too close to Gallaudet. I want to hear from the general deaf community about their thoughts on the vlog on SLCC. Is there anyone out there wondering the same as I?

I think there should be people, preferably alumnus, sent to Gallaudet and find what is what. Find what is the truth and what is a misperception. Is SLCC truly committed to ASL research? I truly hope so. At the end, Bob commented that Sorenson is devoted to ASL as an educational tool for the deaf. Anyone who could vouch for that?

Come on and comment away!
