Anonymous Commentors: Teacher's Critical Roles
Teachers of the deaf have critical roles in reducing future anonymous commentors we see in our blogs/vlogs.

100% Pre-Lingual Deaf Icon
Cool icon??!! There is a on-going discussion on "fancy-schmancy" English written by some bloggers that some deafies want to promote while others debate that these "fancy-schmancy" English is like "talking down" - ASL - looking down upon - those who struggle with English. This sparked a spin-off discussion on the misconception that there is an association between the decibel of hearing loss and "fancy-schmancy" English. Hogwash, I say.
Banjo created the icon to show the world that we pre-lingual Deafies are perfectly capable of writing "fancy-schmancy" English, or what I like to refer to as "academia" English. The type of English that would do your English professor proud but is unnecessary to convey ideas or messages. The simpler and readable non-academia English does just as well in conveying the same ideas and messages that the "fancy-schmancy" English does. However, that is off the point. The point is that there is no association between decibels of hearing loss and ability to write fancy English. If you are hard-of-hearing, can talk on the phone, can listen to and translate music, it means you can write more advanced English. If you are profoundly deaf, or almost there, depend heavily on relay service, and only can feel the bass of the music, it means you can't write too well. That is the common misconception.
Another misconception is if you are pre-lingually deaf, you can't possibly write good English. That is because you were not exposed to spoken English before age of 3. As I was. I was born deaf. Profoundly. 120 in my right and 115 in my left. With hearing aids, 85 in my left, 105 in my right. No point in wearing hearing aids, right? Yup. And I can't speak - let me correct...I can speak 3 words perfectly; "mom," "fish" and "no." That was what the speech therapist told my parents at an IEP meeting when I was 12. Lastly, I can lipread very little.
But I write well and love to read. Thus why I put up that icon. Thank you, Banjo, for creating it and giving us bloggers permission to copy it and post it on our blogs!

Constructive VS Negative Criticism/Opinion

How to differentiate between the two and how to respond to constructive criticism/opinion which is often perspected as negative.
In the illustration above, add negative words and this becomes a potential negative selective hearing/reception = husband hearing "do not lay down, do not rest," and getting upset or angry when the wife might have meant otherwise. This is basically what I think happened in the vlog I made, "To Or Not To: Art Of Vlogging."

Flashback! Life In The Dorm!
Stories of the dorm culture in the residential schools for the deaf. How the structures and dynamics of a dorm "pack" as in a wolf pack impacted us as a group and how we interacted with each other.

To Or Not To: Art of ASL Vlogging
A response to Aidan Mack's vlog on the fast-paced technology that impacts the future of filmmaking and ASL vlogging. How the fast pace have impacts upon the learning and memory/retention process. Whether to or not to add special effects to the ASL vlogs.

Definition of Direct/ Circumstanial Evidence and Sociopath
Noun 1. sociopath - someone with a sociopathic personality; a person with an antisocial personality disorder (`psychopath' was once widely used but has now been superseded by `sociopath')
Definition of sociopath offered by thefreedictionary.com. A commentor advised me that Daphne is not a sociopath but a pyschopath, implying that these two words are different. Here is what I researched and this is my discovery.
circumstantial evidence n. evidence in a trial which is not directly from an eyewitness or participant and requires some reasoning to prove a fact. There is a public perception that such evidence is weak ("all they have is circumstantial evidence"), but the probable conclusion from the circumstances may be so strong that there can be little doubt as to a vital fact
The sentence in italic is what I am trying to articulate in my vlog below. The combination of several circumstanial evidence in Daphne Wright's case are strong enough to be considered as direct evidence or "vital fact."
Forensic identification is the application of forensic science and technology to identify specific objects from the traces they leave, often at a crime scene.
People can be identified by their fingerprints, from traces of their DNA by DNA fingerprinting, from their teeth or bite by forensic odontology, from a photograph or a video recording by facial recognition systems, from the video recording of their walk by gait analysis, from an audio recording by voice analysis, from their handwriting by handwriting analysis, from the content of their writings by their writing style (eg. typical phrases, factual bias, and/or misspellings of words), or from other traces using other biometric techniques.
Firearms can be identified by ballistics from the marks on the bullets they fired and on the bullet cartridges.
Documents are characterized by the composition of their paper and ink.
Typewriters can be identified by minor variations of positioning and wear of their letters.
Paper shredders can be potentially identified in a similar way, by spacing and wear of their blades.
Color copiers and maybe some color computer printers steganographically embed their identification number to some printouts as a countermeasure of currency forgeries.
Copiers and computer printers can be potentially identified by the minor variants of the way they feed the paper through the printing mechanism, leaving banding artifacts. http://news.uns.purdue.edu/UNS/html4ever/2004/041011.Delp.forensics.html http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20041011/printer.html
Social networks can be discovered by network analysis of banking, telecommunication and postal records.
Radio transceivers can be potentially identified by minute variations of their output signal.
Cars can be automatically found on CCTV records by automatic number plate recognition.
Computers connected to the Internet can often be identified by their IP address or MAC address.
These above are the definition of direct evidence in which the legal/court system defines by the forensic link to the crime.

Daphne Wright: Circumstancial Evidence=No Death Penalty?

Every one of us have a good and a bad side. Most of us have more good than bad or have our bad side under control. Our good side is ruled by conscience. Our conscience measures our values, morals, judgement, and helps us how to live by them. Daily, our conscience tells us how to be a productive and law abiding citizen of a society. We all always have our bad (devil) playing "devil's advocate" to the "angel" on our shoulders and the angel usually wins. Once in a blue moon, the devil wins and we slip up and do something inappropriate, unacceptable, unlawful, or possibly evil. The key word being "once in a blue moon," if there ever is a blue moon?? I feel the animae above illustrates what I am trying to articulate pretty well. The bad/good halves are such an integral part of our human makeup.

This is an illustration of the sociopath. A sociopath wears mask and walks around with a facade of normality. Sociopaths do not have any specific physical or personality traits to which would alert us that he/she may be a sociopath. They appear to be pretty much a regular Joe or Jane. Many of they are even well liked and charismatic. They learn to live among us the normal folks. They pick up the acceptable and appropriate cues in how to behave normally from us. They mime us. They learn to suppress their devils but their devils always control them and the angels pretty much are passive. Perhaps it is their angels that help them learn how to live among us wearing masks of normality. Their angels help them remain members of a society. But almost always, the devil wins. One day, they could not suppress their evil and act out. They kill. The instinct to kill is powerful in most sociopaths. They do not feel any guilty conscience or remorse. It is almost a primitive trait. They offer no justification for killing. For many of them, it is instinctual.
What is scary about a sociopath is nobody can tell who is one.

Darlene VanderGiesen

I've been reading numerous posts on Daphne Wright and had seen a couple of pictures of her. Lost in all this is the victim, Darlene VanderGiesen. I don't personally know this woman and wanted to connect her name to a face. I googled her up and found a few. This is the best one. I decided to post her picture to give her name a face.
Every murder trial is not necessarily about the defendant. It is all about giving justice to the victim, in this case, Darlene VanderGiesen. It is about making the defendant, Daphne Wright, answer to her crime of murdering Darlene VanderGiesen. Let's not forget that.

Missing Deaf Children!

A sequel to the "ARF!" story.
Parents and the police were faced with the challenges of locating missing deaf children. Funny but yet serious stories - something one looks back and chuckles but was not as funny at the time of the misadventures!

Emotions! Familiarity! Topic Pushed Aside!
A discussion about how emotions and too much familiarity of the vloggers distrupts the process of intelligent debate of a controversial topic of the usage of "hearing loss" signed by Bobbie Beth Scoggins, the NAD president, to which Aidan Mack felt Bobbie Beth should resign for signing the offensive words with opposing views by Barb DiGiovanni. An excellent model of discussion style is offered in a vlog by IAmMine
Are Hearing Children Normal?
A response to DeafDC's post about a postcard sent anonymously by hearing parent of a deaf child who is envious of other parents who have normal children. My discussion relates to the definition of "normal." What about a child who hears TOO well? Normal children have their own issues!

My son is an excellent athlete. He pitched for youth baseball leagues for 3 years and got a MVP award. He played Pop Warner for 3 years as well as on the team at his public high school as a new frosh. He received an award as the best player on the Special Team. Physically, he excels. Academically, he struggles. All because he hears too well.
