Pssst! AGB Is Very Afraid!

Powerful message behind AGB's request to close off the walkway between DBC's hotel and AGB's Marriott hotel.

Hi CY,just one correct to make in your vlog, you mention DBC conference start next month. Actually it is tomorrow. NAD conference is next month on July 7-11.. DBC is tomorrow ... if you want u can check on dbc website its www.dbcusa.org

I don't see the walkway closure an accessibility issue and it shouldn't be an access issue since DBC don't include deafs with other disabilities.

Just an FYI...

There is no direct walkway between the Marriott, where AGBell is staying and the Hyatt where the DBC convention is.

There is a walkway from the Marriott to the Midwest Express Center, where they will host their convention, and from the Midwest Express Center to the Hyatt.

AGBell did not ask Marriot to close their walkway, they asked the Hyatt to close their walkway, that allowed the DBC to find out about the whole blockage to begin with.

I am pretty sure the Hyatt manager called the DBC to express their concerns about this odd request.

DBC conference starts TOMORROW! :)

Good vlog and I agree with you, AGB is more afraid of us exposing the truth!

I dont think so.....Dirty Harry tactics don't seem to work on AGB..Bring a big gun to the table and get them to start talking...It's ironic in a way that Moa Tse Tung once said, "power grows out of the barrel of a gun".

First off, I want to enlighten you about Milwaukee's walkway or skywalk. You're right it is like a bridge that connects two building. The hotel that they are staying at is across the street from the Midwest Center. Midwest Center is a BIG building where the convention for AGB will be held at. Behind the Midwest Center is Hyatt. There is a skywalk that connects between the Midwest Center to the Hyatt. Then there is another one that connects to the Ruess Federal Building, then it connects to Grand Avenue Mall, and then it connects to yet another multiple building. One could essentially have a "skywaukee" tour as I mentioned in my post today.

Your assumptions about why they would be closing the skywalk between the Midwest Center and Hyatt is just pure paranoia. Let me tell you why. These skywalks have been closed a lot in the past for security or safety reasons.

There is no reason for it to be open. #1 is DBC are not allowed to be at AGB convention as per agreement when they got the permit from the city of Milwaukee.

Many parents are aware of ASL and they made a CHOICE to go with a different approach.

That kind of thinking you just brought up is a very juvenile thought process.

Next month?

It is Thursday, tomorrow and Saturday this week......

I hope those who attend the DBC conference have information picket on ground floor under the skyway bridge (that is what it is you're talking about) to get the notice of the parents and yes, the MEDIA.

snickering, snickering

Ok, ok, folks! I didn't realize DBC convention is already upon us and tomorrow at that! I thought, for some reason, it was in July.

Candy, please read other blogs. There IS a walkway between the two hotels.

My point wasn't whose hotel was asked to block access...my point was the very idea of AGB ASKING that access on the walkway be blocked - whichever that may be. on the Marriott or on Hyatt's end.

The request sends a loud message that they are afraid of the "contiagousness" of ASL "infecting" their patrons and guests. They are afraid because they know perfectly well ASL has validity as a language and contribute to a stronger language development that any other!

Candy - you baffle me. You are a DOD yourself and yet you are a rabid advocate of CI and anti-ASL. You are a contradication that I don't even want to figure out!

Roehm - ASL is for all walks of life - Deaf AND other diabilities. It seems to me you have limited understanding of ASL?? The school where I teach has plenty of deaf students with additional disabilities, and I am not talking about Special Needs, either, although they are among them.

I am afraid I don't get your Dirty Harry message? Are you saying the mere presence of DBC and trying to tap into the media won't scare AGB? That we need to bring in the heavy artillery? This is more political than anything - media is a powerful medium for inflicting damage where politics are concerned.

It shows that AGBAD members are possibly just evil. They possibly knew bilingualism works, etc. AGB himself wanted to isolate, castrate, and more on us. I believe he was just evil. Not suprisingly, nazism and his idealism are similiar. Isn't it time to criminalize AGBAD members for hate crime and children abuses?

Cy said...

Salticid68,

Hmmm...evil? I don't know if I'd go that far as to call him that, but he was certainly badly misinformed about deafness and had huge biases and issues with deafness. If I remember correctly, his mother was deaf and he had a deaf wife. Remember, it was back in late 1800s through early 1900s...around that...in those days, the deaf people had it rough. That was what AGB experienced and observed with his loved ones and developed issues. Modern day members don't need to perputate his legacy.

AGBell's headquarter hotel is HIlton Milwaukee City Center and does have skywalk to Midwest Airline Center. DBC's headquarter hotel is Hyatt Regency Milwaukee which is on other side of MidWest Airline Center and does have skywalk connecting to Midwest Airline Center. There is no skywalk connecting between Hilton and Hyatt.

When you say Marriott you mean Courtyard by marriott which is on Michigan St. pretty far from Hyatt and no connecting skywalk between those two.

So both HIlton and Hyatt do have skywalk to Midwest Airline Center where AGB convention is held while DBC is held at Hyatt.

It can be confirmed by looking at Google Earth!

Cy,

Its impossible for both hotels to be connected by one walkway.

I know that Jack's Eyes did a great blog called "View of DBC Conference at the Hyatt Hotel" and they showed the walkway from the Hyatt to the Midwest convention center. He also shows a map of the locations to the hotels. The only way for there to be a direct walkway is if the buildings were next to each other, and they are 3 blocks away from each other. The Midwest express center is HUGE! Takes up 2 city blocks!

Jack is a Wisconsinite, and I am a Milwaukeean. I will be there in support of the DBC.

Cy, no, there is no walkway between these two hotels. Not unless they build it to connect from AGBell's hotel to the Midwest Center at one end. I used to live, work, and play there.

Limited understanding?

Take a look at the actions of the then CSDR Superintendent Dr. Rachel Stone. She believed the safest haven for ASL is the purity of the students. She simply wanted to purge out programs that supported deaf people with other disabilities.

Don't tell me I have limited understanding. I remember these things.

Cy, I'm not anti-ASL. I would have back up and supported DBC had they used a different approach.

I support ASL 100%

I also respect other choices as well.

At least I'm rational and open minded.

Folks,

All I know is what I read...there is a walkway between two buildings (I assumed two hotels but apparently not) which is accessible to both hotels on both sides through this walkway. Looks like the walkway is not directly conncted to the hotels themselves but to larger part of groups of buildings on both sides but both sides are accessible by this walkway meaning you can enter this or that hotel by walking through this walkway and through other buildings to arrive at the hotel. Am I warm?

My point is not about the walkway itself but the very idea AGB asked that the walkway be closed off.

Candy - you keep insisting there is no walkway while all others say there is...althought it is not directly connected to either hotels where DBC and AGB conventions are held.

And what approach are you referring to in regards to DBC?

Roehm,

You know nil about Rachel Stone and her philosophy. I know by just reading your comment. You are just being inflammatory so I will delete your posts from now on - I don't appreciate your using my blog to light up fires about unrelated topics to promote your own causes.

Am wondering if there is any Business such as engineering or computer or any businesses have conference at Midwest Express center and many hearing people stay both Hilton and Hyatt? How they gonna walk thru walkway and skyway? dont think they gonna close both ways. Hey AGBAD, wake up and smell the coffee. Hope both DBC and AGB dont drop blood on eachother. God bless.

To criminalise AGBAD???? What do you mean by that. Please elaborate on that. I pray that you are not serious about that.

Folks,

Richard Roehm made some threats to promote his anti-ASL campaign on his blog by embedding my video there. I wonder how threatening is that, folks? What do you guys know about this guy?

Shel said...

Copyright your vlogs and let it be known that you don't allow the embedding of your vlogs in other places. RR did that with Drmzz and got booted off Deafread for that action.

If there is more that you can do, perhaps other vloggers can advise?

Cy, re: Roehm, he is a nightmare but comparatively speaking, if you had a thousand fleas in your armpit, he would be merely a single one....no more than a pest.

This nit-picking about the physical lay-out is just dumb, folks; the point is AGBell making a request (blockage) shows how far they will go to keep parents from being completely informed of all choices.

Keep up the good work, Cy!

Shel,

Thanks for sharing about RR. I guess I will check in other sites and if I do find my video posted without my permission, I will contact the blog master and inform her/him of the fact.

Thanks for trying to make my point across to the readers - it is not about the layout of the conventions like you said. The point was all about AGB ASKING for the walkway be closed off.

Be Very Afraid, AGB!

Thanks for sharing. I hope everything will go well up there. I also hope that they won't block in the walkway.

In response to that vlog, why don't they call the CNN news and let all in the world get attention to that unique Deaf Rally against AGB.? That would be a big chance for all to hear the truth about our history of suffering discrimination controlled by AGB through this popular media.

I didn't know you replied to me. Sometimes, YouTube probably works funny. Maybe you're right they're not evil. I sometimes come on too strong. They were possibly only misinformed. I think maybe it's safe to say AG Bell himself was evil? He was rude to a polite man like Laurent Clerc and was responsible for blocking ASL-supporting voters at the Milan Conference. He wanted to isolate and castrate us, and some more. Your comment about his experience is interesting. I'll think on it.
